Forecasts

Forecasts

A hand drawn surface analysis by a meteorologist at the Storm Prediction Center.

Interactive Forecasts from the National Weather Service (NWS) in Sacramento

The NWS tracks our local weather continuously, and their forecasts are very good, in my opinion. It's centered on Chico when you open this up, but if you want a forecast for someplace else, scroll down to the map on the right and drag it to where you want, then click.

Interior Northern California Zone Forecasts from the National Weather Service in Sacramento

Another way of looking at the forecast. Not interactive, just a text printout of the forecast. Just scroll down until you find the location you want, and there's your forecast.

Northern California Weather Forecast Discussion

Here's the Area Forecast Discussion from the Meteorologists at the National Weather Service office in Sacramento. They forecast for most of the North State.

This is where you can dive deeper into the WHY of what the weather is doing. They'll explain the meteorology of our current weather pattern, and what will cause it to change. If you want to learn a lot more about our weather I highly recommend reading these over the course of a week (or longer!) to get a true understanding of what our weather is doing.

Interactive forecast map for northern California

Click here for a variety of graphical forecasts from the National Weather Service: High & Low Temperatures, Wind (direction, speed, and gusts), Rain (percentage chance & total amounts), Snow (percentage chance & total amounts), Dry or Severe Thunderstorm chances, and other products. Click on the location you want the forecast for. Change the forecast with the dropdown that says Maximum Temperature in the upper left. The slider to the right of that will change your time... it runs in 6 hour segments, so you may have to do a few to get a storm total.

Short and Long range Temperature & Precipitation Outlooks from the Climate Prediction Center (CPC)

Find out if our temperatures and/or precipitation will be above or below normal in these time frames:

  1. 6-10 Day Outlook
  2. 8-14 Day Outlook
  3. 3-4 Week Outlook, plus a meteorological breakdown of why that should happen.
  4. 30 Day Forecast. This is interactive; click on northern CA, for more local detail.
  5. 3 Month Outlook. This is interactive; click on northern CA, then select your timeframe with the yellow Lead dropdown. You can go over 1 year from now!

Severe weather forecasts from the Storm Prediction Center (SPC)

The Storm Prediction Center tracks severe weather, especially severe thunderstorms and tornadoes. They also track fire weather.

Hurricane forecasts from the National Hurricane Center (NHC)

The National Hurricane Center has everything you need to know about hurricanes! Like active hurricanes, hurricane forecasts, and details on past significant hurricanes.
