PG & E Public Safety Power Shutoffs

PG & E will sometimes cut the power in foothill locations if fire danger is extreme. Check here to see if a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) is planned by PG & E anytime soon.

Fire Weather Outlooks

The Storm Prediction Center also issues Fire Weather Outlooks. Rather specific for the first 2 days, then a bit more generalized for days 3-8.

Diablo Winds Primer

An explanation of the Diablo Winds, which are the Northern California variant of the Santa Ana winds of Southern California. The Diablo Winds, Santa Ana winds, and Jarbo Gap winds are all essentially the same type of warm, gusty, offshore wind that creates high fire danger in California. Notable fires fanned by the Diablo winds include 1991's Oakland Hills (Tunnel) fire, 2017's Wine Country fires, and 2019's Kincade fire.

Southern California: Santa Ana Wildfire Threat Index (SAWTI)

Exactly what the name says, this is the threat index for wildfires in Southern California, based on how strong the Santa Ana winds will be (if they're blowing), and how dry the fuels are. This ranges from Santa Barbara southward to San Diego, and inland.
